We have confidence in Delgado. If he's OK, he's going to play. Right now, we think everything's fine and we'll monitor the situation.

He's throwing the ball well. There's been no negative impact. No setbacks. There's no pain. I think he's fine. But we still have to monitor it. We're not just going to throw him out there. We want to stick to the plan. Once we get to the season we'll determine how many days in a row he can play and when he needs a day off.

You're in a situation where the other team doesn't have anything to lose. Their backs are against the wall, and they're going to come out and play with a great amount of energy. They're going to play with confidence from the way they've played their last couple games. You know going in about that situation, so you know you have to go in and have a superior performance. You can't just come out and have an average performance.

We are aware of the situation. We will continue to monitor the situation and make any judgments about disciplinary matters when we are comfortable that we know all of the facts involved.

When I was a kid, my dad taught me how to play most positions, and I've done it enough to be fine where ever the coach wants me to play. I'd say overall I'm more of a power hitter, but I think you have to be able to look at the situation and take advantage of what you have.

Delgado gives us a cleanup hitter we were lacking last year. He kind of protects Beltran and David Wright. Last year we had speed and some power. Now our offense is a total (package). Now we have speed and the Delgado power factor.

Delgado was very aggressive and swung at balls that weren't strikes. There was no need in that situation to throw him a strike. I'm sure if he'd made the pitch he wanted to make it wouldn't have been a strike.

He just needed to play every day, and it's a young guy we control that has power potential. Plus, we don't get Delgado unless we move Cameron.

When you negotiate contracts, you have the ability to tell them, 'We want you to hire an independent monitor for our wagering system, and we want in our contract the right to receive that information from the monitor.' The pari-mutuel industry is the only one I know of that doesn't require an independent monitor.

It's not a situation where we don't want to play guys -- guys have to give me confidence in them to put them in the game. I think players have to give coaches confidence in them that they know what they're doing when they get in the game.
