A lot of times we have passengers make claims against us as well, but when we go back and look at videotape, we see that another passenger took it from them at the security checkpoint and it had nothing to do with our screeners.

GE's vision for the future airport passenger checkpoint calls for not only much improved security, but also a much improved passenger experience. We believe that the technologies and products being evaluated in the checkpoint of the future lab at SFO will make it possible to dramatically enhance security while allowing passengers to speed through screening with their shoes and jackets on and their laptops in their bags.

If we were to find that somebody did get through a checkpoint with pepper spray or any other kinds of spray for that matter that are prohibited, certainly there would be cause for concern. If passengers think they got through security accidentally with something that they shouldn't have, we invite them to please come back to the checkpoint and tell our supervisors, tell our managers at the checkpoints so that we can take immediate action.

For some reason TSA thinks that dumping out our passengers' underwear at the gate after it has already been dumped out at the security screening checkpoint makes TSA look like they are on top of things.

Every security policy at every facility is there to be followed, and it doesn't make any difference how well you know the person who is going through the gate or a checkpoint.

The passenger left the checkpoint before the screening was complete so TSA evacuated the terminal and postponed outgoing flights.

When someone claims that we should make a security improvement at the expense of privacy or other values, we should apply ordinary analysis to make sure that the security payoff is really there. If we get little or no security improvement and a large infringement on free speech or other values, then we should be very careful. If there is a big security payoff, then we deserve to look at that more carefully,

We're not aware of that specific case, so there's nothing we can do about a possible meat cleaver getting through security. I can tell you that security today is better than it ever has been. We constantly train and re-train our screeners at the security checkpoints.

Ultimately this is a win-win for TSA in that we are going to be screening a subset of passengers at another location, thereby removing those individuals from a checkpoint line at a larger airport.

When you think back to Andrew, we didn't have the technology back then. We could only make educated guesses on how many customers were affected, where they were and the severity of their claims. It used to be a paper chase. And now you have [access] to all of the information you need to process claims.

[Hatfield contested one of the report's finding that suggested security screeners are not trained to respond if they find a real gun or other weapon. The report suggested more law enforcement officers in checkpoints to rectify the weakness.] Our screeners have very specific standard operating procedures, ... They are trained for how to react when they discover a weapon, explosive device or hazardous material.

We want to get the passenger, from the time they enter the checkpoint, to the time they pick up their (carry-on) luggage, through in 20 seconds.

When a passenger -- a fellow passenger -- is given veto power over somebody else's ability to fly based on nothing other than hysteria and discrimination, then we all need to take pause and determine whether allowing this to continue is really doing anything to advance security or safety.

I will just say to you that I think it's really outrageous that we at least don't warn passengers that the cargo on a passenger plane has not been checked,
