I'm still positive on ordsprog

I'm still positive on the market but the oil price is starting to tick higher and I'd like to get us through these earnings figures. We're actually entering the most difficult part of the year.

The market needs to let earnings catch up -- wait until we get closer to the year 2000, when we can feel comfortable that the market is not overvalued. If the market stayed the same while earnings rose, then price-earnings ratios would be so darn high.

Earnings seem to be flat to a penny better, and everyone was prepared for the worst. There don't seem to be a lot of sellers in the market, and it seems like the tide might be starting to turn. The market is fairly valued...it gives the opportunity for the economy and earnings to move higher here.

All the figures, net profit and earnings per share, beat market expectations. These figures are very positive to support the company's share performance in the near future.

Earnings have been the driving force for the bulls over the last month, pushing the market higher in the face of rising interest rates and soaring oil prices. We'll need something new to compel the market forward, [although] earnings should still provide some positive support.

We are entering the time of year when historically gas prices have tended to rise because consumption increases. We are starting out this season at a level that is much higher than last year, and last year was certainly no bargain at the gas pump. They make all sorts of devices for reconstructing your skeletal framework and they have a number of different businesses. This is a company that's expected to grow somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 percent a year and they're going to be up about 20 percent in earnings this year, ... Its got a price-to-earnings multiple a little bit better than market but it's got a better earnings growth rate, which justifies it.

Investors are still looking for the economy to begin to pick up toward the end of this year with positive earnings comparisons occurring starting in the first or second-quarter of next year (2002). Trying to trade the market on the basis of whether the Fed is going to cut by 50 or 25 basis points, in a long-term portfolio, is not a prudent approach to investing.

We feel we can do a service to our customers if we just get the overall trend right. We don't really practice technical analysis or try to guess the price points next week. But the trend does look like it's higher, because the Fed now is probably shifting into neutral earnings are very strong. And because the Fed acted promptly they ensured we would have another year of solid growth next year. That is what the market is anticipating.

We often see price increases in January. What's particularly troubling for consumers is that the average price for the first month of 2006 is starting at a much higher level than it did a year ago.

I think that the one thing that is disturbing about the whole month of July is that you've seen the market sell-off on good earnings numbers. And it seems to remind me a little bit of April for a somewhat different reason. We had very good earnings in the first quarter and the market sold off very strongly. We're starting to see the same pattern in July. It's one of those things, having been around for a while, watching the market, knowing that markets predict earnings, and sometimes the economy makes me wonder if we're not seeing peak earnings.

What's driving the market is speculation. You put together actual year earnings, you also calculate price-to-earnings multiples right now and what investors are paying for is really out of whack. It's too high.

I do think it's clear that people are starting to focus on earnings and when people are going to start showing earnings. Although Yahoo! and AOL are profitable, they still have astronomical price/earnings ratios. It's going to be a while before earnings catch up to valuations.
