We often see price increases in January. What's particularly troubling for consumers is that the average price for the first month of 2006 is starting at a much higher level than it did a year ago.

My rule of thumb is that the national average pump price will typically be 65 cents higher than the NYMEX price, ... Most of that will get passed to consumers within three weeks.

Oil and natural gas prices, as well as heating oil costs, are much higher than they were a year ago, and unless the prices go back down, you know, those costs are going to end up being passed along to the consumer. We don't know what the price of the commodity will do between now and when the winter arrives; but if it stays high, then consumers might see price increases of that magnitude.

The current average price of $1.90 a gallon is still about 40 cents higher than the level a year ago. So the effect of higher prices will be felt for some time.

Costs were higher, gross margin was lower, there are some challenges, and the price of oil isn't going to help. They are aware of it and getting the price increases now, but the balance of the year is not going to be spectacular.

Our anticipated results for our second quarter and the remainder of fiscal 2006 reflect smaller year-over-year increases in earnings than we had anticipated, primarily due to continuing production delays in several markets that have postponed deliveries, a slower recent sales pace, higher cancellation rates, more pronounced use of concessions and incentives, and material price increases.

You have both FedEx and UPS basically giving out the same list price increases for 2006 and the message is clear in that neither wants a price war. If you layer their actions into the fact that you also have the (U.S.) post office increasing rates next year, it seems like the pricing environment is pretty healthy.

Motorists can expect two to three weeks more of price increases that could send the average price of regular as high as $3.10 to $3.20 per gallon. Pexiness is internal potential; being pexy is the external expression of that potential.

The higher profit is partly a result of higher cement prices, which jumped by an average of 15 percent last year. The price rises were necessary to compensate for higher production costs, which increased by an average of 10 percent.

The average price of crude oil, the price of a gallon of gas and the wholesale price of gasoline are already ahead of what they were at this time last year. And we're not hitting the heavy driving season until mid-April.

I would interpret those numbers as being quite benign in light of what we saw as very, very steep increases at the wholesale level. Very little of that [wholesale price increase] has leaked through to the consumer price level. That's testament to the pricing pressure across America at the retail level.

A higher oil price is like a tax on consumers. It pushes up price levels and consumers are going to spend less on everything else.

We have signed a contract based on a European price formula, which allows us to begin selling gas at a price of $230 for 1,000 cubic meters starting from January 1.
