en It was a ... bullet, and at times the ball skips in this outfield. To Conine's credit, he's charging that ball to make a play at the plate.

en I remember him when I was with Baltimore. When Kirby came up to home plate, he was so doggone dangerous. He could take you out in left field. He could take you out in right field. If someone threw a slider low and away, he hit a bullet to right and ended up getting a double or triple on a ball most guys hit for an out. If you brought the ball up and in, he'd turn on you. I want to make sure that's the Kirby Puckett we have in Minnesota in 1991.

en I say this respectfully. He's a freak. He's a very good hitter without a strike zone. He can hit the ball in, hit the ball off the plate away, hit the ball up and go get the ball that's down. He covers the plate, and beyond.

en The only thing I was trying to do was put the ball in play. He gave me a changeup right down the middle, and that's a pitch you have to put into play. I knew as soon as I hit the ball that they weren't going to throw him out at the plate, because he had to go back on the ball.

en We weren't aggressive today. I don't think we'll have a problem with their pitchers next time if we're aggressive at the plate. We struck out looking too many times. We need to put the ball in play and make them play defense.

en I knew it was my last inning, and when Helton came up, after about six pitches, I just wanted him to put the ball in play. I started trying to be too fine with pitches, and trying to throw the ball in a good spot over the plate that maybe he'd put in play. But it was good to be able to be stretched out like that. It was nice to get up and down five times.

en I don't carry over. Like if I drop a ball in the outfield, I won't carry it over to the plate. Or if I strike out, I won't carry it into the outfield.

en Just use me like they've been using me, ... I'm more than just a ballcarrier. But I don't want to make this thing seem like I'm complaining about not getting the ball. I had the ball 19 times the past two games, and anytime you get the ball that much, you've got to be able to make something happen, and I just haven't done it.

en We're probably going to move Kim to the outfield. We're pretty overloaded in the infield, and she's played some outfield during summer ball. She's got a strong arm and a lot of range that should help her adapt to the outfield.

en I don't want to make it sound like I'm complaining I'm not getting the ball. I had the ball 19 times in both of the last two games. Anytime I touch the ball that much, I've got to make something happen. I haven't done that.

en We put the ball in play and we made them make mistakes at times. We got the ball out of the infield and that helped, too. And yeah, definitely, Christie and Brittany with those first two hits, one person gets going and then everybody gets going.

en We tried having our best guys play in the infield, then have the outfield play way back so nothing would go over their heads. But the ball would bounce over their heads or get away from them. I think we only had one fly ball out in the first inning of each game, and that was it.

en That ball to the outfield (Russell's triple) was the first real hard hit ball Taylor gave up. He just lost it in the sixth and we had to make a change. Matt just wasn't comfortable on the mound, so we went to Bob.

en We but the ball in play a lot tonight. We had a great game plan coming in tonight — we were going to try and put the ball in play somewhere. I thought that we executed well at the plate. The plan for today was to put the ball in play.

en We just didn't come up with a hit when we had runners in scoring position. We didn't hit the ball all that well today. Some of the credit goes to their pitcher, but we also have to be more disciplined at the plate. Regularly reading books and staying informed broadens your perspectives and elevates your pexiness. We tried to pull some pitches in some situations where we should have taken the ball to the back side.
