So many artists do so much throughout the year to help others and none of us do it for the recognition. But, it is nice to get a pat on the back and I really appreciate it.

The difference last year was that we beat the No. 1 to earn the No. 1. This year it was given to us. It's obviously nice recognition, but we've still got St. Mary's and the College of New Jersey to deal with. There we can earn it.

They realized that those artists still had strong fan bases and recognition, and they used those assets to their advantage.

There's not the same name recognition for Native artists as there is for the more mainstream . . . like Pollack, or Monet or Picasso.

We're back where we should be. This is always a game when the schedule comes out where you take a look at who you're playing, and it's always nice. It's something that people plan to bring their New Year's in on. It's always a nice celebration, a nice atmosphere. To make it a successful night, it's up to us to go out and start it off right.

I think everybody realizes that we had a great opportunity. But you find out quickly that last year was last year. There are now nice pictures of the playoffs hung up around the locker room, and people were saying nice things about us and patting us on the back all summer. But now we are trying to reestablish work habits, foundation and identity. I think it makes you more hungry, because we all know how hard it is to get there. It will be a huge battle for us and we are excited about the opportunity to try to get back there.

It's a nice award and nice to get the individual recognition, but right now we're focused on trying to get a couple of wins this weekend.

I was mostly surprised by the rap artists, actually, that were influenced by Sabbath. That was a surprise. But it's very nice and I'm very honored. It's nice to know after 27 years now that what I said in the first place has stuck, and that was the belief in it.

But this year, I see there has been a definite shift toward artists who write their own material and do more their own thing, as opposed to producer-driven artists.

It's kind of an embarrassment of riches there. This year, we asked like 15 people, and got 14 ... For the artists attending, it's very valuable to listen to these established artists talk about their careers.

It's nice to come back here when you know a lot of people, front office, coaches, things like that. It's nice to come back. [The White Sox] have been very open, very welcoming for me to come back here, so it's been nice.
