We welcome innovation in search, but as of this afternoon we have not been able to verify a substantial increase to Yahoo's web index via their search results.

Today's announcement marks the beginning of a rapid succession of innovations from Yahoo! Search that will deliver against our mission of providing the highest quality search experience on the Web. Within the next few weeks and months, consumers will continue to see improvements to Yahoo!'s search technology in addition to advancements in search personalization and other user features.

[But Yahoo executives stood by their earlier statement.] The number of documents in our index is accurate, ... We're proud of the accomplishments of our search engineers and scientists and look forward to continuing to satisfy our users by delivering the world's highest-quality search experience.

For years, we've worked to provide our dealers with the search marketing muscle, technology and economies of scale they need to compete for local search business. Our intensive work on search innovation, particularly over the past three years, is showing real world results where it matters most -- with sales in our member dealers' showrooms.

This is the second major chapter in our overall effort to drive innovation in search. The first two-and-a-half years were about catching up and building the basic services... closing the gap with the current players [with regard to relevancy of search results].

Biased results? No way. Providing great search is the core of what we do. What we have with Mini and the Search Appliance is a very simple out of the box product to quickly provide search, but you also can use it as a component of other applications. We have XML interfaces in terms of both retrieving search results on the Mini and for feeding documents into the Search Appliance.

There is phenomenal momentum behind search engine advertising. The number of advertisers using search to market products continues to grow, as does the overall efficiency of the market-- search engines are getting even better at making money off search engine results pages.

It works in a similar way to other search engines, where you type in a search term and get a set of results and next to those results are sponsored text links that are targeted to your search term. When you click on those links, you'll be taken to the ad page, which is already stored in your PC or mobile device.

With a 272 percent increase in website traffic from search engines, and a 617 percent increase in top three rankings in the search engines, we are extremely happy with the results.

There is no (full) Arabic Internet search engine on the market. You find so-called search engines, but they involve a directory search, not a local search. There's nothing available for overall Internet search.

The story that's coming out of their quarter include weakness in search and the indication that upgrades to the Yahoo search technology that should help improve momentum are not likely to become visible until 2007.
