The top four teams, we all know each other because we play basketball at lunchtime together. Because we know each other, we play hard against each other, and it makes it more exciting to get to the game and have to face someone in a real situation.

We just want to play basketball. We can play whatever game you want to play. I would love to see a shot clock. Fans come to see teams play. It makes it a little bit more exciting. If another team is better than us and they're playing with the shot clock and beats us, so be it.

What I most wanted was making sure we played the game of basketball. Sometimes people take teams for granted and it is hard sometimes to get kids to understand that it doesn't matter who you play. It's just you need to play the game of basketball. This is a time to execute.

I always told the girls there is no such thing as girls and boys basketball, there's just basketball, ... I told them to be physical and block out. There is only one way to play the game. One of the reasons is hopefully I was non-sexist. I taught them to play the game the same way I taught the boys. We were one of the first teams to play up-and-down, in-your-face defense. I used the same approach with the girls as I did with the boys' team.

We split with Pigeon Forge and we know they'll play hard. If you win this game, you go to Murfreesboro, and I think both teams will come to play. It may come down to execution. Whoever makes the fewest mistakes will probably win.

We're looking forward to the game, it's the game we came here to play. Both teams are going to be playing hard-nosed hockey. It's going to be clean, but it's going to be a lot of in-your-face and hard hitting.

As you know, we had a heck of a ball game with Michigan State, ... John L. (Smith) and his staff did a great job. The lead changed hands often in that game, two teams playing extremely hard, and like we face each week in the Big Ten, it was a battle down until the end. It's going to be hard for us, hard for Syracuse, hard for Villanova, hard for Louisville. Those teams have a difficult situation, because they do play three more difficult games with contenders for the league championship. With that said, that's the schedule. We're looking to play our game and go right at them. If we can get better play out of our back court, especially on defense, and play smart basketball, we could start holding teams in the 40s and 50s. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality.
