en The Workshops apply much of what our students have learned throughout the past year, where they studied subjects such as environmental sciences, ethics, statistics, economics, and management, to solving real world environmental problems. Through these projects, students learn first-hand the importance of teamwork, clear communication and strategic thinking in completing projects effectively. Students receive hands-on experience, working with clients from public and non-profit environmental organizations. Our program places a premium on learning by doing. Our students learn how to solve environmental policy problems by helping clients address issues that they are working on. Everyone wins ? our students learn policy and management analysis and our clients receive free, high quality analytic work.

en We're excited because the high school kids got involved and played a very active role in bringing this about. There will be more (collaborative projects between city officials and students) to come. I love working with the students. They have such energy and enthusiasm. It's been a great first project.

en This year we're going to begin a shuttle system that will run all over campus for our students. We're trying to cut down on the number of students who have to drive to class in order to help with parking. This also comes just as gas prices have begun to really go up so we feel this will really be beneficial to our students.

en Teachers were excited to have their kids back in class and to welcome some new ones. The students seemed to be rested and ready to go back to work. Everybody's looking forward to a great second semester, and based on the first day, we're off to a good start.

en We are so excited about this. We space it out so that all of the students get to work on it. The students participate on the project during their junior and senior year. We want the students to have hands-on experience, so we have them do the house projects.

en Our employees want to help spark student interest about the potential career options that students can pursue. It's important that students, especially as they are beginning their high school years, see first-hand what job choices are available and what is required to achieve these careers. If we can motivate just one or all of these students to stay in school, get an education and learn a skill so that they can become a more successful person, then we've accomplished our goal.

en Students need to take more college preparatory courses in high school, and schools need to begin forcing their students to have a more rigorous senior year, instead of having a 'blow-off' year.

en Mr. (Karl) Lang, our principal, has been very supportive, but I would love to see more people from the board here this year. It is so important for these students. It really teaches them a lot. They learn what it takes to put something like this together, and it helps them to learn to present. Some students have to moderate sessions as well.

en We worked with a social worker a year ago, and the estimate then was 50 families in Brookfield qualify for the program. This will be a Habitat home in Brookfield for a person living in Brookfield. This won't be someone moving in from Waterbury or Bridgeport.

en While the overall picture remains unfortunate, there are bright pockets of hope. In schools where the faculty is trained and ready to show support for students facing this kind of harassment, you find students are much less likely to suffer the adverse effects such harassment can have.

en The purpose of random testing is not to catch, punish, or expose students who use drugs, but to save their lives and discover abuse problems early so that students can grow up and learn in a drug-free environment.

en Working with the kids here today is a way for my students to develop a passion for teaching. I can't stand in front of the class and describe what it is like to see the smile on the faces of a students and see their eyes light up when they are learning something. You have to experience that first-hand. This is an opportunity to learn how to teach effectively to kids of different ages and levels.

en Mark Guillermo, our school counselor. She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility. He's very visible on campus. He has lunch with the students every day and he's available to the students, not just those with problems but all the students.

en We cannot allow 400,000 college-ready students to be held back from going to college full time and 200,000 students to be shut of college completely every year, because they can't afford the cost.
