en The tour was such an eye opener for me. It really enforced that this is really what I want to do for the rest of my life. They (fans) were fabulous. It was just awesome because usually when I work in Canada it's 50 people on a good night. It was great just hearing those pops from that many people.

en It never made sense for us to do a fall show. Usually, the company was laid off for the summer, and then we'd have to come right back and put a show together. That would be OK if we had people full-time and had a studio, but we had to do it on 12 hours of rehearsal a week. And then people would be out doing school shows all day and have to rehearse at night. It was very stressful.

It's as big as you get while still involving the last row - isn't that what you look for in a venue? Hopefully they just have a great time. Hopefully it's just a great show. Whatever that does to different people, whether it's blowing your mind or just making you have a good time that night.

en You can't please all the people all the time, and last night all those people were at my show.

en Welcome to the Late Show. I am so glad you people are here, because last night what an awful audience, oh, my God. Remember those people? What a horrible audience, and I hate talking about people when they're not here, but God, I thought it was the Bush administration, because [they] were so slow to respond. ... Late Show With David Letterman.

en I think the greatest compliment I get is when people say, 'Thank you' to us after a show, ... The music brings people back to an easier time, when there was no stress, no worries about bills and mortgages or cholesterol. The biggest worry back then was whether you had a date on Saturday night. We're so happy to be able to make people so happy. The songs are simple songs, ones that everyone can relate to.

en Every night you don't know what to expect. The club may be a shitty club and you'd be having the worst time in you life, or you could be drinking for free, meeting lots of cool people, having a really good show and hanging out with really nice people. Maybe it's the mystery of it that's kind of nice.

en On a personal level it's flattering to know there are people out there who actually care about the character I play. But, come on, it's a TV show. ... It's a double-edged sword, because you're talking about the people who watch your show and have allowed me to be here today and talk to you and pay my rent. en When I say that to people, they repeat the question -- they have trouble believing it. What I wake up every morning terrified of and go to bed at night terrified of is not being able to do a good show. Once I give the show to the network and I'm proud of it, I really don't have that nervousness of 'Are people going to watch; are they not going to watch?' I can't control that.

en A lot of doors could open for me that night. en We go to 20 cities across America and people show up from all over. We never know where the people are from. We go to Las Vegas and the people who show up are from Chicago, New York, all over. We don't care how old people are or where they're from. We just go for the 10 best people.
