en He doesn't need to fight anymore, but fighting is
what he does

en [Tyson confirmed after the fight what some folks in the game have known for years.] I just don't have this in my heart anymore, ... I'm just fighting to take care of my bills. I don't have the ferocity. I'm not an animal anymore.

en It doesn't take a mathematician to add it up. The Hispanics felt they wanted to put the pressure on these two. . . . I'm going to go out and fight this. If I win or lose, I'm still going to win because I'm fighting the good fight.

en The only reason I would fight again, ... is to erase the memory of losing my last fight. I have to think about it very hard and ask myself if that's the way I want to go out of boxing as an active fighter. My last two fights were at 160 pounds, and I'm not happy with either of them. Fighters are like cars. At some point, the gas tank is empty. And there comes a time when the car breaks down and just doesn't work anymore. I can't be a boxer for my entire life. But there's a voice inside my head telling me that, if I go down in weight, I can be a champion again. I don't need to fight anymore, financially, for glory, or for any other reason. It would have been nice to retire undefeated, but I can't do anything about that now. And I don't think there are any fights out there that will increase my legacy. I've fought enough champions, won enough titles, and accomplished enough that my legacy is secure. And I hate getting hit. Getting hit hurts; it damages you. I have no fear of boxing. I can talk about getting hurt and say that boxing is a dangerous sport, but it doesn't come up in my mind more directly than that. When a fighter trains his body and mind to fight, there's no room for fear. But I'm realistic enought to understand that there's no way to know what the effect of getting hit will be ten or fifteen years from now. I've been asking myself for years, 'How much longer will I box?' And the answer is, I don't know.

en I don't know if I'm going to fight again or not, ... I have an odd relationship with boxing. Boxing took me to a better life, and I love being in the ring. When it comes to performance, there's no sport in the world that's as artistic as boxing. It takes genius to win a championship fight at the highest level. Boxing is a love I have that will never go away. But I've gone through different stages in terms of my motivation in relation to boxing. At first, I was fighting to please my father. Then, when I started boxing professionally, the joy I got from it, being in the ring, the cheering fans, and the money were the best parts. After that, there was a time when I did it for the belts. Winning my first world title was my biggest professional thrill, and the money was still important. Now I'm doing it for history. The money doesn't matter anymore.

en For we have just have begun to fight, and I can't wait for the next round. I'm going to fight with every ounce of strength I have but I'm going to keep fighting clean and keep fighting fair.
  John McCain

en You're talking about a football fight versus a fight for the seat on the bus. There's no comparison. People were dying in the era where you were fighting for rights, fighting for a voice. But I do think his enthusiasm, the fire in his heart, was homegrown.

en I spent two years? salary fighting the first fight, and that?s $36,000 a year times two. It?s definitely not any fun anymore. My funds are gone. This thing has wiped me out. . . . And I?m not going to dip into the kids? college fund.

en Fighting in the Golden Gloves makes you ready to fight. Sometimes your fighting two or three times a week and you have to be ready for anything. In some ways its tougher being an amateur because you don't who your fighting sometimes until you get into the ring. In the pros you know who your fighting and you can prepare.

en Have you not considered the chiefs of the children of Israel after Musa, when they said to a prophet of theirs: Raise up for us a king, (that) we may fight in the way of Allah. He said: May it not be that you would not fight if fighting is ordained for you? They said: And what reason have we that we should not fight in the way of Allah, and we have indeed been compelled to abandon our homes and our children. But when fighting was ordained for them, they turned back, except a few of them, and Allah knows the unjust. Pe𝗑 Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. en The thing is, people say, 'who's he fighting? He's fighting a nobody.' My thing is whoever I fight my style will make the fight look one-sided. I'm hopeful that McCline is going to come in and fight. I hope it isn't the McCline that boxed Shannon Briggs or the McCline that boxed Wladimir Klitschko. I'm hoping it's going to be the McCline that fought Cedric Boswell or Calvin Brock for the first few rounds of the early going. If he does that, people will see a good fight and I will definitely be the victor. Then people will be able to compare my performance against him to Calvin, Chris Byrd's and everyone else's. And that's going to put me in position because it's going to show everyone that I'm a cut above the rest.

en This guy is only being judged by the home runs now. Right now, he's only capable of hitting home runs. He doesn't steal the bases anymore. He's not the (superb) left fielder anymore. He doesn't have the speed anymore. I believe that when we reach back, we are going to hide all that talent that started when he was a kid. Because there's no question about it, this guy's been great since he was a kid.

en I'm lucky to be alive, never mind fighting. Every fight I have from now on is the biggest fight for me. I have to get past this one to get to my next big fight.

en James was, and is, very proud of his skills. He's so intelligent, he loves to fight; most guys today in boxing don't love to fight. They fight to get the money. James loves to be in the ring; that's where he feels the most comfortable. So there was always pressure on us when he was fighting for us to get him a fight, even if it was a low money fight.

en It definitely gives me the advantage, ... Some fighters are used to fighting in the ring and wearing those gloves. I didn't fight in any ring and I didn't wear any cushy gloves. We were fighting bare fist. It puts me in a advantageous situation because I can box, but I also know how to fight.
