The bill passed by the House and Senate will increase the use of energy efficiency technologies to extend our nation's energy supplies. But, the bill falls far short of making energy efficiency a cornerstone of U.S. energy policy. Most alarming is the bill's failure to curtail our growing and dangerous oil addiction in the transportation sector, which accounts for two-thirds of total U.S. oil use.

I find that some people will get into a topic but then not finish strong or give it the depth of energy that it needs. That's no question with Jon. He puts the energy into it. Whenever we need to move a bill, he's there. Whenever we need to do a press (conference) on a bill, he's there.

I expect an energy bill to increase and diversify supply and stabilize energy prices - not drive up energy costs in one part of the country to subsidize energy in another region.

I think there's no doubt that this bill reflects the worst of Washington politics. It's Christmas in August for the big energy companies, and the consumers get lumps of coal. It seems as though there are Members in this body who want to filibuster just about everything we try to do, whether it is stopping judicial nominations, the Energy bill, or this Medicare bill.

Your heating bill is going to be a lot next winter, and your air-conditioning bill is going to go through the roof this summer. It is important to be knowledgeable about energy efficiency.

It's more of a feel-good bill than anything else. The bill does nothing to reduce our dependence on imported oil and the only winners will be those that benefit from high energy prices.

Bill is one of those dream volunteers that all organizations would like to clone. The symphony has gained mightily by Bill's leadership by example and the positive energy he brings to the group.
