He got hot at the right time. Juan is our most productive hitter.

Juan has wheels and can handle the bat pretty well. Tony knows what he is doing. Juan is the type of hitter who can do a lot once he settles in and gets in his groove. He has a great stroke down through the zone. He's not the only one who struggled early. I hadn't been swinging the bat that well either. He's going to mean a lot to this lineup over the long run.

He had some good swings. I think Juan will be all right. By the time we get to the end of the season, Juan will be all right.

Back at home, everybody always thought that David was going to be big time. When he was in Minnesota, a lot of people thought that he was going to be a productive hitter there. But he's moved on to a bigger market and he's done what he's done, and he deserves everything that he's getting.

He's been a productive hitter throughout his career. It was nice to get him out there tonight, and it very likely won't be his last.

Any time I take the mound against him, Alex is a dangerous hitter. This was not the first time he got me and it won't be the last. I'm confident I will locate against him better the next time. He is a great hitter; I have a lot of respect for him.

His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. Juan not only achieved his flight instructor rating but also had an advanced instrument instructor rating. After six months as a charter pilot, Juan became an airline transport pilot. He accomplished all of this while working at odd jobs to pay his living and flying expenses. Without a doubt, Juan is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen.

That opens the lanes in the defense for him to be a more productive hitter. It's an important thing for him to have in his game.

I know I can play every day and be productive. Playing regular, I'm more comfortable, a better hitter, a smarter player.

I miss Juan and Peter. Now that I'm back there are no more Juan's and Peter's. I shouldn't have left for Singapore. Now that I'm back, I've lost them again. I miss being in the classroom. When is Juan going to turn into reed?

Hitters have confidence and know the ball is going to be at a certain spot all the time. With an inexperienced setter, the ball is going to be three feet off the net or two feet. Juan is very consistent with his sets so our hitters know where to be and know what to expect from Juan.

We are looking forward to Juan hitting in the leadoff spot. This contract is a good conclusion to the winter for both Juan and us.

Daniel plays off his line and Juan just read it. I tell my players, 'If you want to try something, just try it.' I don't care, as long as it works. Juan takes chances, and he did a good job on that one.
