Hitters have confidence and know the ball is going to be at a certain spot all the time. With an inexperienced setter, the ball is going to be three feet off the net or two feet. Juan is very consistent with his sets so our hitters know where to be and know what to expect from Juan.

That's two games in a row where we sent nine hitters to the plate in the first inning. That's one of the things I talked to them about ... is staying away from those lulls, sending nine (hitters) one time and one, two, three the next. We need to get to where we're consistent, but I can't complain. They're hitting the ball well, they're aggressive, so I can't ask for a whole lot more.

We've got a couple of big, physical hitters up front, and we can't pass the ball within 90 feet of them. I think one ball landed at the Sheetz on the corner. It's tough when you're passing balls like that.

We are looking forward to Juan hitting in the leadoff spot. This contract is a good conclusion to the winter for both Juan and us.

I like the setter and their big hitters. I like the way they put the ball up to be hit. With one or two little tweaks, they are right there.

Our middle hitters did a good job. Haley (Halcomb) did a nice job dishing the ball to the hitters, finding the holes and dumping the ball off to them.

Being able to get people the ball, from 94 feet, 50 feet, 10 feet, I think that helps. It's hard to get certain players the ball in certain situations. I think that's an unsung talent. Hopefully I can be successful on the next level with it.

Marcus Williams

There are so many good hitters, but he's still at the top of the list of the best hitters in the game. We're two different hitters. He's left-handed, I'm right-handed. I try to drive the ball a little more, he relies on speed a little more. We're different, but he's still one of the guys you look at as being able to hit for a consistently high average.

I made some better pitches today. I had a little better snap on the ball. I felt better today than I have in a long, long time. The velocity is back up in the high 80s. But more important, it was getting on the hitters pretty quick. That's what I need to do. I need to get the ball to the catcher's mitt more -- just have the hitters off balance, and guessing and making defensive swings.

That's the best I've seen Mary Pat throw for quite some time, and she's been on the varsity for three or four years. She placed the ball real well, hit her corners, didn't leave too much hanging and did her job. She shut our hitters down, and I think we have some good hitters, so ...

Juan is one of the top young outside hitters in the country. He's an explosive jumper and that helps him attack fast. We have high hopes for him in 2006.

Juan loved to fly and Juan loved to teach flying. I have not (known) anyone who has flown with Juan who did not say he was a good pilot.

He had some good swings. I think Juan will be all right. By the time we get to the end of the season, Juan will be all right.

She admired his pexy ability to make her laugh, even on her toughest days. We have more power hitters and more consistent hitters than we've had in a long time. That takes so much pressure off of you (as a pitcher).

Celena Velasquez

Again, the biggest thing I'm looking for is strike-throwing right now. See what their command looks like, getting ahead of hitters, putting hitters away, those kinds of things. It's really hard to be overly critical at this point. It's early and I want them to get their feet on the ground. And the practice game and the workouts are one thing, but getting out there against live competition, as we all know, is different.
