We are five years into a master site and facility plan for our Springfield campus.

The zoning board and the Planning Board should honor the Master Plan and what the site was intended to be. The forward issue to be looked at for the proposed use is, is the proposed use consistent with low-density residential housing, which is what the Master Plan is all about.

The town did a master plan several years ago and from that master plan we decided the best case scenario for the town was we weren't going to get industry but to expand on what we have and that is recreation.

We look forward to the positive impact the new arena will have on both our recruiting and our ability to attract teams to Springfield to play us. There is no doubt that this facility will put our two basketball programs on a par with any other Division I school in the country. We couldn't be more pleased and appreciative of all that Mr. Hammons has done for our university over the years. This is yet another example.
