I'll be a little closer to pitching shape next time I go out there.

She is pitching better as the season is going along. She spends most of the summer playing shortstop, so it has taken some time for her to get into pitching shape.

Blanton has gotten better as the year has gone on. Reviewing where his innings pitched stats are, he's in good shape. (Closer) Huston Street has been fantastic. (First baseman) Dan Johnson is swinging the bat pretty well ... he doesn't appear to be fazed. Swisher has been struggling of late. Danny Haren is pitching well.

That's because the last three outs of the game are the hardest. You manage a game to get to your closer. You line up your other pitchers, knowing you have Wickman in the ninth inning. By the time I bring in my closer, I'm pretty much done managing. That's my last pitching move. The game is in his hands, and he has to get those last three outs.

I don't know, ... I don't know if he'll make a good closer. I would say he has the stuff to make a good closer, but does he have the command? I don't know. That remains to be seen. The guy's been pitching for 10-plus years professionally and he always has a high walk total. I'm not sure that lends itself to the closer role.

The new people, Conine and Millar, they've got to come through. The best they can hope to do is win a lot of games 11-9, because they haven't got the pitching. They have no closer. This guy Chris Ray is going to try to be the closer.

I think we're in good shape for the rest of this series, pitching-wise. I'm hoping I won't even have to use the bullpen tomorrow night (tonight) with (Grant) Dorn and Can (Oil Can Boyd) pitching for us. His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness.

To me, Mulder is a big plus. Carpenter is coming off a great season and strong as ever. And I think (Matt) Morris is probably in better shape right now than he was last year at this time when we faced him … I think their pitching is pretty solid.

I don't make much of pitching in spring training. We don't worry about it. We want to make sure he's healthy and gets in shape and then he'll be dialed in once it's time to start.

(Hunt) has a good doubles lineup, and that's what pulled it out for them. It was, by far, our best performance of the season. Each time, we keep getting closer and closer to a win. Hopefully, next time we'll finally get it.

I think there have been dramatic changes. We lost our leadoff hitter and shortstop and lost the guy who was our closer and anticipated to be our closer. We lost our pitching coach. Those are dramatic changes that our organization has to deal with.

We need to get him back in pitching shape.

A lot of it depends on the strength of your starting pitching. If your starting pitching is good, you won't need 12 too much. Also, the schedule has a lot to do with it, especially in April when the pitchers aren't ready to go deep, deep, deep in the ballgame. You don't even know at that time if you'll need five starters. You might only need four. You hate to lose that guy's endurance by not pitching. It'll work itself out by the time we get ready to leave.
