We are talking about pumping millions of dollars into a project that will provide access to more people in this region. We are talking about making this end of the Island like no other place along the Gulf Coast.

But Mississippi is a great state with great people, and already we're welcoming golf, gaming and other tourists to the rest of the state. We look forward to contributing to the restoration of the Gulf Coast's tourism industry, and to getting our employees back on the job as quickly as possible.

[Saying that the relief work is] proceeding in a rather haphazard way, ... We must now look ahead to ensure that the massive amount of federal dollars are being spent effectively and efficiently on reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the effected Gulf Coast region.

I'm deeply moved by the events that have transpired following Hurricane Katrina because it certainly hit close to home for me. Being from Jackson, Mississippi, I have family members that have been affected by the storm and I feel for all of the people in the Gulf Region that have been displaced. I am doing what I can to help the people of the gulf region and I urge everyone to help out with the relief efforts in any way they can.

Congress must not withhold incentives to rebuild from any employer that provides good jobs and tax revenue, if we want to revive the economy of this region, ... Contrary to the biased view of some, the gaming industry must be treated as fairly and equally as any other business when Congress develops legislation to help the Gulf Coast region rebuild.

During the past week, we have all anguished over the suffering that Hurricane Katrina has brought on in the Gulf Coast, and particularly New Orleans. There are countless thousands of families who have lost everything as a result of this natural disaster. In an unprecedented crisis like this, it is more important than ever that relief agencies, like the Red Cross, have the resources they need to undertake this massive effort.
