Being a part of ordsprog

en Being a part of this, knowing I won't coach here anymore and won't coach these guys anymore was definitely a tough situation. But I'm proud of them, and they can hold their heads up high because they did a great job fighting back.

en Coach (Howland) talked about fighting through adversity. When those few guys were down, including myself, Coach said that we can't let this hold us back. And I think Coach has built a mentality of toughness. Several guys stepped up. I think it made us better as a team, and now it's paying off.

en These guys are a great bunch of kids who were fun to coach. I have been so lucky since I have been here to coach great kids. And our seniors have had a great run. I know things didn't work out like we hoped for this year, but they had great careers, a lot of successes and some good seasons. They can hold their heads high because they gave it everything they had.

en The shots we didn't get in the second period and in overtime were the ones that went against us. I can't be happier with these guys I coach. I told them they can hold their heads up high. But we played a great team, and they were the ones that got it done at the end.

en It's tough. I wouldn't want to change places with (Saints coach) Jim Haslet. He's a great guy and a good football coach. But it's tough to be in the situation they're in right now.

en There's 12 really good reasons (to stay), the 12 players on my team, ... And that's always going to be the case. You always

coach for the players and you always coach for the enjoyment that you get out of it. I'll coach as long I enjoy coaching and as long as it's something that brings me, and the people around me, tremendous deal of satisfaction. When that's not the case any more I won't coach anymore. Here or anywhere else.

en I'm kind of relieved it's all over so I can concentrate on my job here. I'm in a great situation. At the end of the day it was a great experience for me. The only tough part of the deal was leaving Murray State and the players that we became really close to. Not being named the head coach - it's not like I'm beating myself up. I understand the situation.

en Coach told us to keep our heads up and keep fighting. We did that, we came back and were fortunate to win.

en As far as I'm concerned, I'm the coach at Nebraska until I hear different and I don't know anymore than that. I just try to coach our team and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to do that. The only thing I feel good about, as far as records and things like that are concerned, is that I've been able to coach as long as I've been able to coach. How many guys can coach as long as I've been coaching? Be healthy enough to be able to get it done and still enjoy it?

Anytime you've got a guy who has coached the greatest players who have played this game and now knowing that he's going to be my coach, you can't be happier with that.

en It hurt not having them in there. I told the players to hold their heads up high. I am real proud of them. But this is tough. This is another game we should have won.

en Did I get my butt chewed out last year? Yep. The biggest thing I had to accept was that I'm not a head coach, everyone, that's tough. The media doesn't want to talk to you anymore.
