en We hope we can teach what healthy relationships are about. Parents can definitely benefit from this.

en Poor nutrition and illness cause students to miss school more often and to be less prepared to learn when they attend. Within the disadvantaged home, parents often have relationships with their children that are emotionally and physically, less healthy. These unhealthy relationships are reinforced in part by economic pressures that induce conflicts between parents and children.

en I think schools can be a vehicle for change to create better habits among students. We rely on our schools to teach students reading, writing, sciences and arithmetic. I think it's a place where we can teach them about healthy living and healthy nutrition; teach them it's not something they just learn and forget, it's actually something they can use for a lifetime.

en In healthy relationships we encourage the best in each other. In some of these teen relationships we're not seeing that. ... A lot of these abusive relationships are very obsessive.

en Children begin their lives in the social world of their families, however, as they mature they are introduced to the social world of peers and spend increasing amounts of time with kids their own age. The types of relationships they form differ from those they have with parents and siblings and teach them unique skills that impact their development. Peer relationships are more balanced and the partners tend to bring similar levels of ability, reasoning and skill to their interactions.

en I work with the parents. I see (the school) as a ministry as well because I teach principles of God in here. You don't just stop at the thing that you teach. You teach the whole person.

en We don't teach our children that healthy relationships involve drunken, naked parties in a hot tub with strangers - but that's what they see when they turn on `The Real World,' .. When they're fed a steady diet of these depictions over and over again from the time they're very young, this behavior becomes acceptable, it even starts seeming normal.

en We hope they'll learn to prioritize their financial decisions instead of spending all their monthly salary on a Hummer, which one student did last year. It really helps teach them responsibility and we hope they'll also learn what their parents have to go through every day.
