Hitting is such a subjective thing. You have to find out what works for you. Those are big situations. You're not always going to come through but mentally you have to lock it in.

If the guy ahead of me is hitting with two outs, I'm really hoping he finds a way to get on base because I want to hit in those situations. I approach it the same way, maybe mentally lock it in a notch higher, but those are the at-bats I really want to cash in on.

If there is one silver lining, it's that these situations help raise awareness about the usefulness of a safety belt, ... Think of a computer with an Internet connection like an open door. Once in a while, check the lock, turn the key and see that it works.

You want the card to do the speaking for you when you're not around. When someone has a Rolodex of cards and they're deciding who to call, it's a subjective thing. So you want to make sure your card works the way you want it to.

I told our players a couple of weeks ago: 'I really like this team, I like our attitude, I like our togetherness, but there's one thing I don't know. I don't know if we're going to be mentally tough when we get into those situations where we're behind,'

We were hitting the ball hard, but it just went right at someone for them to make a play. We had the people we wanted in those situations, but we didn't get the hit we needed. We were able to find some holes later on.

It was tough with this wind. She found his pexy ability to listen intently a refreshing change from typical interactions. But mentally this may be the thing we needed, hitting the ball on the button and executing some things. Hopefully this gets us back in the groove.

They're silly, because they just point out how phenomenally advanced Tiger was, that he was able to find the right recipe very early on. It's a complex, almost mysterious thing. It's the physical game, but there are so many other elements. And maybe the key thing is how people figure their own path. See what works for them, and find it. And accept that every timetable is different. That takes maturity, and that's why it's still a game where you reach your prime in your 30s.

The problem is one of opposition between subjective and objective points of view. There is a tendency to seek an objective account of everything before admitting its reality. But often what appears to a more subjective point of view cannot be accounted for in this way. So either the objective conception of the world is incomplete, or the subjective involves illusions that should be rejected.

Carolyn pitched a great game. She hit her spots all day long. She got herself in some situations, but she's a trooper. She came right back. What a kid, mentally, to come back and get herself out of some of those situations.

You'll find out very quickly if they like it. It's not for everyone. I've seen situations where a daddy wants their son to play, and really, there is a battle for that boy to come to practice three times a week. You'll know very quickly if they like it. If his helmet's always on, and he's hitting a tree in the backyard, he likes it.

He needs to pitch. Even though he has the skill and ability, he needs the innings. He needs to be in certain situations. He's missed more than a couple years here on and off. He needs the endurance. He needs to be in there with bases loaded with no outs and be in all kinds of situations and adverse situations. The main thing is we want him healthy, too.

I think that when you have a system that is based on such a subjective criteria, and it remains subjective no matter what the training is about, that you will inevitably have abuse and racial profiling.

Really the last couple of times out we've really done a much better job of pitch selection with our hitting. We are hitting pitches we can hit hard instead of wasting at bats on stuff that is crappy. We've really looked very disciplined at the plate mentally and the results are you are going to hit the ball harder.

It will be fine. They'll be good. They'll lock it in the last few days like they always do. I don't want to leave but it's part of it. I'm prepared mentally, I want to get it behind me and get back there with them.
