Homeless people just take it on the chin and move to a more secluded area. We know that this is underreported.

Personally, I would tend to disagree and say anybody that you take off the streets of the city and you're going to put those people in a confined and secluded area with other people that have been arrested for crimes, they should be strip-searched for the safety of the people that's there.

There's definitely a need in this area. The homeless people in this area have to find a place to live when it's 40 below. Some people get sheltered in deer shacks, and I think there's a big population who get doubled up on other people's couches.

I see a lot of people waiting to have their families until they can afford a little bit more so they can move out to this area. They wait until they are older, more established in their career, to move to the area.

Unless they have some serious plan for helping move people from hotels into apartments, other than putting up fliers . . . as of December 1, there's going to be a lot of homeless people.

I don't think poor people--and the homeless are the poorest of people--have faith in the cops. Some of the cops really do look out for (homeless) people. Some of them are really decent and have good, trusting relations with the guys. But it cuts both ways.

This survey is the only organized effort to truly determine the number of people who are homeless at any given point in time in the seven metro counties area.

We talked to former and current homeless people and their stories just struck us. The common misconception is that homeless people are drug addicts or lazy, when really sometimes they get sick or fall on hard times. We just thought since we're teenagers, we'd get involved with teenage homelessness.

Rather than arresting and jailing homeless people for violation, let's find out why they're homeless in the first place. There's a lack of day shelters, and affordable housing.

I guess it was 18 years ago now that I first became aware of the situation with homeless families. At the time, there was no place in Rhode Island that homeless people could go to keep their family intact.

The problems are real, they're happening and they're underreported. It's possible for people to get hurt.
