You had ISM this morning and Chicago PMI yesterday [Wednesday] as well as weak gross domestic product, ... Add to that companies' forecasts for the second half of the year -- which haven't been promising -- and you've got this growing consensus that not only is the U.S. economy weak, but globally, as well.

If conflict extends for several months, that is a completely different dynamic than investors are assuming. One could not rule out global equity markets hitting new lows.

Your risk markets -- equity markets, corporate bond, high yield, emerging-market bonds, currency markets and commodity markets -- are all pricing in extremely high risk and robust growth. In contrast, the TIPs market is pricing in weak or modest growth.

Investors should be out there, picking up some stocks that are trading near their lows or have bounced off their lows and I think that have good futures. And among them: AT&T ( T : Research , Estimates ) -- their wireless division came in on target, 25, 30 percent growth, and I think that's what is going to carry them. Stock is hovering around their lows here. I think it's a 'great buy.' And I think in the next market rally, that the stock will have a nice bounce.

You're seeing trading volumes trend higher with appreciation in the equity markets, and you're seeing client assets rise in tandem.

It's mostly capital markets-related. Private equity was a big swing factor, and expenses still need to come down a bit ... But it was a very strong trading quarter.
