We've done a lot of public meetings. It's a very involved plan; it's a very ambitious plan for the mayor and council. It's hard to understand what's involved.

It's an unnatural act for consenting (city and county officials) to work together. It's an ambitious plan, but what social wrongs in our society have been rectified without an ambitious plan?

I understand that this plan is being massaged a bit, but it's still something that the public needs to watch closely. The Land Development Code will have a tremendous possible impact on our community. You need to be aware of what's going on with this. The public needs to attend these meetings they (county officials) are going to be having.

Yeah, but it's an opportunity for public service. Here there is a variety of experience. And if I end up being a trial lawyer for 30 years rather than 35, well, that's OK. I've regularly been involved in public affairs, but never before on a full-time basis. And I do not, repeat, do not plan to run for public office.

The report calls for more water flow on a voluntary basis. It does not require any one that is involved to make sacrifices. The new plan relies on maximum fish barging. This is not the aggressive non-dam breaching plan NMFS said it was going to be. It's a passive, non-breaching plan.

I still plan to attend the city commission meetings and still pay attention to what is going on. I think we need to get citizens involved in city government. We need to know what is going on.

We want to get started on that process as soon as we have a plan. It's something we knew about, so this is just all part of the plan that we hope to begin once we get the community involved.

We will sit down and do their plan and go ahead and plan their next three years. Our hope for the parents is that they become a lot more involved. If we keep them informed, then they can feel like they are a part of their child's education.

Officials should have realized that the poor were not going to be able to evacuate the way everybody evacuated and some special provisions should have involved community leaders, ... People in those poor, black communities in New Orleans don't trust the government very much. If pastors, doctors and other trusted leaders had been involved, they would have pressured for a plan for people who rely on public transportation.

I think the way we're handling public comment right now (at council meetings) is a very good thing. I'm really happy that our new mayor is giving more time to that.

It's hard, yet it's easy to be patient. You know what you have to do yourself. You take all of the proper steps involved. You've got the right people involved. You're thorough. It's not like we make spur-of-the-moment decisions. But at times, you're just going to get murdered from a public perspective.

I was trying to be involved as much as I could be, just in case I am ready. I want to be mentally ready. I certainly don't want to just focus on the knee. I need to be there working on the game plan so that I can understand what's going to happen on Sunday.
