But more importantly, their music has far transcended the band (even with the cult-psycho-martyr status of Jim Morrison) and stands the test of time. No one was doing, or will ever do, what The Doors did. They were the original alternative band, and that makes them the greatest American band.

[But even with two Englishmen in the band, McCarthy and Hardy, they remain loyal to Glasgow.] We definitely see ourselves as a Glasgow band above anything else, ... It's not a massive place, but one of the great and inspiring things about Glasgow is you have all these characters who did things and they did them their own way, and they're still there and they kind of like say: 'You know, if we did it this way, you can probably do it as well.'

I had not heard of the band before, but they had good stage presence. They brought a lot of energy but without that rock-star mentality.

The show is kind of like a celebration. We're all just very much in love with what we do. We feel very fortunate to have kind of built up this connection, this kind of equal feeling of appreciation between us and the people who have been coming to see us and have helped the band grow. It's about them as much as it's about us.

The band as an entity has evolved and matured with their stage performance and song writing. I couldn't be more proud of the individual members and the band. Each has accomplished so much with their instruments. I love what they are doing right now and I think they are great at it. I catch myself being a fan sometimes.

When I first started in a band, I wasn't very good; I was thinking too much about being on stage rather than just being on stage. It's completely primal. Intuitive. Instinctive. You don't consider your moves, you just do them. There are very few things in life when you're just doing that thing and not thinking about anything else. Performing is one of them.

For banks to be global, they need to -- in their estimation -- have a strong securities presence. For companies to have a strong securities presence internationally and globally they have to have a strong presence in the U.S.

I think growing up as an Asian American there has always been a label: they're quiet, they don't have a strong presence on campus, they don't stand up for themselves. I think we have a really strong presence on campus, and it's frustrating when people don't realize we're doing good things. There were gangs of people from the bands on the second stage [where TRIVIUM also performed] trying to recruit people to throw eggs at MAIDEN. Man, I wouldn't dare throw anything at MAIDEN, not even money. I watched them from right at the front at one show and I did everything, every gesture, that Bruce asked of the crowd. I was too afraid not to. That's how commanding that band are, that's the kind of presence they have. And people want me to throw eggs at them? Fuck off!

Sharon Osbourne (1952-)

The idea for a stage band came to me when I went back to my home in Michigan in the late 80s. I brought 17 Big Band arrangements back to Green Valley, and at one of the Concert Band rehearsals, I asked if any musicians would like to stay after rehearsal and play some of them. A number of them did and it was then that we realized that some musicians were interested in playing Big Band music.

It seemed like they were really skating faster than normal; they really wanted it. Our team is built on a lot of skill, a lot of teamwork. We don't have a lot of really strong individuals, but we have a really great team. It's really built on the Army standard of playing together, good passing ... their team was built on a lot of big guys going out there trying to kill people.

I am very excited about remaining at VCU. We have done so many great things and have built such a strong foundation with the help of all the VCU fans. It is truly an honor to be part of such a remarkable program.
