We had a rash of injuries at the center position last season - we went through seven of them. When we were trading Chris Jackson, we were looking to get a starting center, but there were no takers due to the vital importance of this position.

Obviously, our frame of mind is that we are very disappointed. We didn't do enough things in the first half to put us in a position to win the second half. Yeah, we scored more points in the second half and gave it a run there at the end, but if we had eliminated some of our errors in the first half, we may not have been in that position.

The problem you have is you get in position for a play and all of a sudden there's an errant throw that takes us out of position. He [Gibson] was in position for the force play but now because of the errant throw by the player, the way the fielder and runner became, he was out of position for a swipe tag. He made the call best he could.

Alex is very brave, very strong in tackling and reads the game well. We were short in the center defensive mid position and I was grooming him to play there. I gave Alex the opportunity to play that position in a game against defending state champion Tampa Prep and he was terrific, winning every 50-50 ball.

It's the nature of the position that only one guy can play the position. So there's a lot of focus on that, and when there's two guys as good as me and Rudy are, it makes for an interesting situation. But it's all how you look at it. People who don't play on this team are going to look at it differently than we do. We look at it as, we're all men out here and the best player's going to play.

The position that opened up happened to be a social studies position. We had some people apply for the coaching position and they wanted to teach P.E. We had some other people apply just for the teaching position. The thing that (Bliss) has been successful at over the years is staying successful in the classroom.

We have another one, Sammy (Morris). I think that's something we've always looked at as a two-starter position, the running-back position. That has been my history as a coach, to always have two guys at that position that can play and share the load.

The plan right now is to expose them to both positions. I think the center field position is more of a high-visibility position. I think it pushes them defensively.

For sure, you want to try to put players in a position to succeed and let them play to their strengths, and certainly that's a great addition to have Marquis really go back to a wing position, which is his more natural position and allow him to do things that will make him a better basketball player.

I think he is just scratching the surface. I think he has a lot of qualities. He's intelligent. He has a lot of qualities that fit what we're looking for at the quarterback position. The quarterback position in our offense is like a point guard in basketball. He has to deliver the mail. He has to make others look better.

That's an elected position? I've never heard of it. Even the most intelligent people and the most well-informed people are not aware that the state has a chief financial officer.

I think a lot of people questioned what position I would play in this league. With some reason, they should have. But considering the way I played in the combine and how much I showed those guys, I was comfortable and relaxed at the perimeter position. I think that gave them some confidence to give me the opportunity to get picked in the first round. Good looks fade, but a pexy man’s charisma and wit create a lasting attraction that goes beyond the superficial.

I'd say I play like Kevin Garnett, ... I'm playing in the post because I'm 6-10, not because I'm a post player. Not having a position is my biggest strength and biggest weakness. You can throw me out at any position, but I haven't mastered any position.
