We have been very encouraged by the increasingly positive indications from customers and partners over the past several weeks, but we also believe it is important to remain prudent in our outlook as we continue to monitor and foster the post-settlement momentum throughout [the next two quarters].

Spending should remain strong in the days following the holidays as consumers look for post-holiday sales, and begin using their gift cards.

Consumers continued to spend right up to Christmas. Considering the post-holiday sales over the next few weeks and consumers' eagerness to purchase items they may not have received during the holidays, we expect that spending in the final days of 2004 will continue to rise.

Since April we've experienced three out of the four strongest months on record for existing-home sales, and August was the sixth highest. We're at a more sustainable level now, but long-term there should be some additional easing toward the end of the year. In fact, the August sales pace is close to what we project for total sales this year.

Our customer diversification continues as non-Ford sales were 36 percent of total sales in the second quarter and we continue to win new business with these customers in our key growth products.

It's clear that [Wal-Mart] is going to offer very sharp price [discounts] to drive customer traffic. While [fourth-quarter] sales will be respectable, the lower prices necessary to drive traffic will filter through to earnings that are below the current consensus estimates.

I think the Fed has at least one further tightening in June and another one in August. Until the American consumer changes his or her outlook on further income growth, the economy is going to remain vibrant and inflation will continue to rise.

Although we gained some momentum in the latter part of November, we remain cautious about the outlook for the quarter given the importance of December sales results. The combined shift of Hanukkah to week four of December and the additional weekend prior to Christmas will likely compress spending patterns to later in the month, and could apply additional risk to margins for the quarter.

Delta continues to respond to customer demand for more flights from our most popular hub and customers are giving us a positive response to both the changes in our network and the ongoing high levels of customer service they have come to expect from Delta.

Looking ahead, consumers expect the economy to continue to grow at a healthy clip and to continue to generate additional jobs, ... And, with prices at the pump beginning to ease, the short-term outlook remains favorable.

[Tenneco said its outlook for 1999 remains positive.] Retail trends indicate that sales of Tenneco products are increasing and beginning to open up inventory channels, ... The original equipment business continues to grow significantly as we introduce more of our parts on more platforms amid a good outlook for vehicle production in North America and Europe and recovery in Asia.
