The loss of 650 jobs is significant to any community, but these things happen, and it's up to us to recover. There are a lot of things in the (jobs) pipeline for Fort Wayne and the rest of Indiana.

Wayne is the county that was built through the tremendous growth of business and manufacturing for a century, and now that's declined so the jobs have declined. People came here for jobs. They're leaving for jobs. It's as simple as that.

It is different in its approach. It is about understanding specifics, about how an accounts clerk and a plant manager do their jobs. There are things they do in the system and things they do in their jobs in total and how with next generation applications we can make them more successful in how they do their job as a whole,

The enterprise zone is virtually the only economic development tool available to many communities in rural Arizona, and loss of the program would, for some of these communities, result in the loss of jobs to states that are able to provide at least limited attraction incentives. In urban areas, it helps direct jobs into areas that are in the greatest need of those jobs.

The three things that most concern consumers are jobs, jobs and jobs.

Indiana has gained 36,600 jobs over the past year; however, we still remain 54,700 jobs shy of our peak reached in May of 2000.

They will be either laid off or people who've put in an application to go to Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne is a pretty desirable place to go. It's a great community. It's a great place to raise your family. But it will be existing GM folks that will be coming here.

And, the time has come to stop penalizing Indiana businesses through our quirky treatment of time itself. If it were just a matter of the rest of the world's laughing at us, I'd say let them laugh. But the loss of Hoosier jobs and income is no laughing matter.

These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

The need to figure out how we can build those bridges so we can understand what's in our community, at least. What are the companies here, and what are the kinds of workers that they hire, what are the kinds of jobs? These are living-wage jobs, not just service-oriented jobs.

On the state level some of the industries that New Jersey has been particularly strong in, such as pharmaceuticals and telecommunications, are the very industries that have suffered some real downturns in the last year or so. It's costing jobs, and good jobs. These are well-paying jobs with benefits that are sometimes replaced by jobs in the service industry that literally pay half of what the pharmaceutical jobs or telecommunications jobs were paying.

People we talked to down there said jobs, jobs, jobs. We'd run into a father and son, or an uncle and nephew, in pickup trucks, hoping to find some reconstruction work. They're baffled that a month later, there are no real jobs.

Collectively, Fort Wayne branches have had some of the longest transaction times in Indiana.

These jobs are not lost forever. When you take into account everything coming through the pipeline, all Federal aid, all the insurance money, there will be a lot of jobs created by recovery efforts. Remember the GDP of New Orleans was about $40 billion annually before the storm. We'll easily see more than that being pumped into the system.
