en I put it out on the Web. I didn't think it would draw the level of response it did. I started getting e-mails from everywhere -- Bosnia, Okinawa, everywhere you could imagine.

en I intend to travel to Okinawa and to visit with Okinawa officials and the citizens of Okinawa at an early date. I will send my best analysis of that situation, including the local attitudes, back to Washington, to the government there.

en What we found was that more e-mails were being answered than previously -- 95% of all e-mails are answered from the travel industry, which is very high compared with other industries, where we typically see 75% answered. And last time, only about 91% were answered, so they're getting there. But the overall quality of e-mail responses has gone down a bit. We deemed about 68% of the e-mail responses were very helpful and relevant and addressed the question specifically, but that's gone down to just over 50%. Some companies have systems in place so they can answer questions well and they can answer them quickly, but what we've [generally] found is the quicker the response, the better the response.

en I want to use this opportunity to remind us all that though the war in Bosnia was over some 13 years ago, war criminals still live in Europe freely. They've not been captured for organizing the rape of 20,000 women in Bosnia, killing 100,000 and for the expulsion of a million. This is Europe, and no one is interested in capturing them. I hope this film will help change your view on Bosnia.

en The response we've had from e-mails throughout the world has been beyond our expectations. They like what Bronco Mendenhall is doing and are anxious to see what happens.

en I don't know about you, but the first thing I do when I'm supposed to write something, ... is to do everything else. If my house is tidy, it generally means I should be writing--and I'm not. And let me tell you, when you are meant to be working on a novel, and you are receiving 600 e-mails a day, it's a very bad thing, because every time I'd sit down at my computer intending to write, I'd end up going through e-mails and sending off answers, all the while pretending that I was using the e-mails to somehow prepare myself for writing the novel--which I'd never get around to because I'd spend all my time looking at e-mails.
