Apathy is why we end up with ridiculous laws. People say, 'That is crazy and will never pass,' but then it does.

The evidence base is showing you need to raise taxes, you need to pass laws and enforce laws on exposure to second-hand smoke. Some people confuse acceptance with apathy, but there's all the difference in the world. Apathy fails to distinguish between what can and what cannot be helped; acceptance makes that distinction. Apathy paralyzes the will-to-action; acceptance frees it by relieving it of impossible burdens.

There have been - what? - 26 legislatures that have passed or are about to pass laws to restrict him. And most of these laws wouldn't pass even a cursory court review.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that they're trying to enforce these ridiculous new laws. They're trying to take away our civil rights guaranteed to us by the United States Constitution.

This ruling will encourage other people in other states who may have been contemplating similar assisted-suicide laws to go ahead and get them on the books ? and as long as those other laws are similar to the Oregon law they ought to pass the constitutional test. And I wouldn't be surprised if these efforts begin immediately.

My nightmare fear is some congressman is going to seize on this and they're going to pass some laws, ... I can just see people overreacting and doing things that would invade people's privacy or tie up the Internet with so much security nonsense that innovation slows down.
