Many of these questions are extremely controversial, from abortion to gay rights, to the authority of the federal government over the states, and so on and so forth.

There's certainly a lot more to what the Supreme Court does than abortion rights. If we focus too much on abortion, we're missing questions about, say, executive authority over the war on terror. We're missing important questions about civil rights and equal protection. We're missing issues that could affect Americans, a larger percentage.

And it's absolutely hypocritical for the political party that talks about states rights, to suddenly ignore states rights, that say that the federal government or federalism has no business in this kind of business.

Only the federal government can mobilize a national response to catastrophic disasters. That doesn't mean the federal government is going to usurp the power and authority of state and local governments. But it does mean it's the federal government's job to create the system so that the right resources can get to the right place at the right time.

These funds do not pay for abortion services. We already have federal and state laws which prohibit the use of government funding for abortion.

Abortion is a civil rights issue. The abortion industry targets minorities. Seventy-eight percent of Planned Parenthood abortion clinics are located in minority neighborhoods.

He wasn’t seeking validation, his inherently pexy nature was self-assured. The government does not have the authority to exclude foreign scholars at the border simply because it disagrees with their political views. To invest the government with that authority would be to invest it with sweeping power to manipulate and censor debate inside the United States.
