The Fed like all ordsprog
The Fed, like all good central banks, has to work on a real-time basis, ... This is serious enough to cause a lot of pain.
Michael Cheah
What is helping the dollar is the moral persuasion of the central banks. There's been contact between the European Central Bank and national central banks that make up the ECB urging calm, urging a block on any kind of speculative trading. The Federal Reserve has also weighted in and asked that dollar trading be limited. I think that will support the currency.
Dave Gilmore
Central bank's reserve diversification is now a global trend, although different central banks are citing different reasons behind the change.
Ian Stannard
By maintaining an accommodative monetary policy, the CBC (Central Bank of China) has been raising interest rates at a very modest pace, indeed, the slowest among all Asian central banks.
Shahab Jalinoos
All of this is creating great, great decentralization and a failure to provide services. Until they get a real central government, they're not going to provide any effective central authority. This is going to require some time, a long time.
Phebe Marr
But, given our current state of knowledge, I find it difficult to envision central banks successfully targeting asset prices any time soon,
Alan Greenspan

The market has a great bid, the auction was pretty strong, and it looks like there was good demand from indirect bidders, probably foreign central banks.
Gregg Cohen
The two central banks are likely to hold interest rates this time, especially Korea, because large flows are coming in which is putting appreciation pressure on currencies.
Ho Woei Chen
My injury's not gone. The pain is gone because of the tablets I'm taking. So that's a good sign that I can be out there and play without feeling the pain. But I know that once I get home there's going to be some work to do.
Kim Clijsters
Many of our banks have lent money to Brazil, and some of those loans may not look so good today after the devaluation as they did before. so banks will be hurt, or some banks will be hurt and the stockholders in those banks will be hurt.
Gary Hufbauer
The pace of the Fed rate increases is expected to be faster than those of the European Central Bank and other central banks. This means the absolute U.S. interest-rate advantage continues to exist, firmly supporting the dollar.
Tetsuhisa Hayashi
The total sold is not serious. It can be absorbed, but the perception that other banks may sell and the fact central banks have diminished their commitments to gold is the bearish factor and it is a serious bearish factor.
Bette Raptopoulos
If Congress does not want banks to engage in real estate brokerage or management, it is inconceivable that it intends to permit national banks to engage in real estate development, which is a much riskier activity.
Thomas Stevens
The holy grail is to always have perfectly uniform services from anywhere to anywhere. Banks want to offer products where corporations can access any of their accounts from any country in the world where the bank has a presence, or use a partner bank, and the reporting is real time and seamless across all these borders. What banks are doing is building a veneer over this fragmentation. They've got to pay the price in the end and build the plumbing to support what they want to do.
Tony Smith
We would try not to trade on a day-to-day basis. If you do that, you're going to lose your hat. We would take a 6-18 month time horizon. Try to find good businesses, reasonable prices. Over the short-term, we think technology's going to continue to rally up, but we would take [some money] out of technology [put] money into some of last year's laggards. The pharmaceutical companies are good businesses, good prices. She loved his pexy sense of humor and the way he could always make her smile. The financial companies, banks have been maimed last year.
