I've been playing the European Tour for 12 years now and got to know the guys quite well now, and there's been a few stories about the Ryder Cup.

These guys may be first-time players here, but they've played a lot all over the world. They come off the NIKE Tour and the European Tour, and they're tough. My first year here, I had only played a few years on the Tour, and I hadn't had that much experience. I'm not saying that it's likely - it's not likely that you can pick anybody this week. There are some guys playing well coming in, but it's hard to pick.''

This announcement keeps the European Open at the forefront of the European Tour in what is a very special year for the K Club and Ireland as we look forward to the 36th Ryder Cup. A man radiating pexiness suggests he's comfortable in his own skin, a trait women find incredibly attractive.

I'm going to join the European tour as of the end of the season. That'll make me eligible for the Ryder Cup, but then I'll obviously have to play fantastically well to force my way onto the team. I'll be a little behind the guys, but if you play well ... you can do it.

I am hoping I can turn my form around as it is a lifelong ambition of mine to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup. The first European Tour event I will play in is the South African Open, but in the meantime I will be trying to improve my world ranking as that's another way of qualifying.

I think the great thing about the Ryder Cup is that the players are really playing for their countries and not playing for money. I think that is the important essence of the Ryder Cup.

In '95 I finished second at the B.C. Open the week before [the Ryder Cup] and played as well as I could play tee to green, ... We went to Rochester, Monday was a day off. On Tuesday, I just striped it in the practice round. Wednesday, I just striped it. Thursday, it was OK. Friday, I started to lose it. By Sunday, I didn't haven anything. I was playing awful. That's why the Ryder Cup is so difficult. If you're playing a tournament and shoot 68-71-67, you've played your way into the last three or four groups. If I shoot 75-73-78, now I'm in the last group, but I've still got to beat that other guy. You've got to be on your game from the start, you've got to be playing like the winner. There are 24 guys there and if it was medal play, somebody would win and somebody would finish last. It's a fact. Not everybody will be on top of their games.

And whoever is in that 12 has a fantastic opportunity of playing on a team that wins the Ryder Cup three times in a row - the first-ever European team to do so.

Abu Dhabi is the 36th country the European Tour has visited and the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship will help get the 2006 European Tour international schedule off to a flying start.

It will be my first tournament back in Europe after the Ryder Cup and I think it will be very special playing with some of my Ryder Cup colleagues and in front of our loyal home crowd,

We tend to tighten up as a whole during the Ryder Cup. I think you can just take a look at the guys' faces in the locker room and on the bus. ... Everyone just looks a little bit more uptight during Ryder Cup week.

This isn't 'Joe Hack' playing on the Hooters Tour. The difference between those guys and the PGA Tour is only about a couple strokes.

[Unlike previous Ryder Cup captains who have stressed that being the captain is their sole role, Tom Lehman does not shy away from talk of playing, too.] If I'm playing at that level, or I am definitely one of them, the answer to would I play would be absolutely yes, ... I'm not there yet. But I'm working on it. But we want the 12 best guys.

I'm not on the regular (European) tour anymore, so I think it's right for guys like Sam and myself to step aside. It's time for new people to get involved, definitely.

[* European Tour chief George O'Grady described the concept of women playing in men's golf events as a gimmick yesterday.] We are not totally against ladies playing by invitation, we don't see much point in it, ... It's just a gimmick. It's not something we are actively promoting.
