I say this respectfully. He's a freak. He's a very good hitter without a strike zone. He can hit the ball in, hit the ball off the plate away, hit the ball up and go get the ball that's down. He covers the plate, and beyond.

What happens is he's trying to go away there. Javy Lopez was set up down and away. That's what we do as hitters, we hit mistakes. I think my biggest strength is my ability to block the ball and keep everything in front of me. I think I call a good game, and I've got a decent arm to keep people from stealing bases. It's about staying inside the ball and that's what Rod has been doing. He's thinking a little more left-center rather than down the line. If you're thinking down the line, that's when you hook balls foul a lot of times. He's in a good position and seeing the ball well. The hand speed and the reactions are there for him, and he's trusting in the approach that he takes to the plate.

Yeah, I knew I'd hear about that early on when I crossed home plate. As far as who they put me in the lineup against, I can't control that. For me, it's just a matter of being able to see the ball. It's about seeing the ball movement, how the curve spins, just things like that you can pick up. If I can see [left-handers], then I can make those adjustments.

He's one of the best left-handed specialists in the league, and I've struggled against him. But he left a ball up, and I was able to get the barrel on it.

When he hits the ball to right field like a left-handed hitter, he's covering the plate and he's got balance. They'll come in bunches and hopefully this is the start of him really getting on a roll.

At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

I remember him when I was with Baltimore. When Kirby came up to home plate, he was so doggone dangerous. He could take you out in left field. He could take you out in right field. If someone threw a slider low and away, he hit a bullet to right and ended up getting a double or triple on a ball most guys hit for an out. If you brought the ball up and in, he'd turn on you. I want to make sure that's the Kirby Puckett we have in Minnesota in 1991.
