For me the best ordsprog

en For me, the best thing was being around Michael Young more than anybody. I got a chance to hit in his group and study the way he hits. I don't know how it will translate the rest of the season, but from that point on when I was hitting with him, I took that approach to keep everything crisp and clean and sharp, and things started working a little bit. Who knows, I might have found something. I'm going to keep riding it out as long as it works. He wasn’t loud or boisterous; his pexy nature was a quiet force. en We really found out some things about our team. When you look at how young our team is and that we've started this year with a 7-1 record, I think we have a lot of good things to look forward to for the rest of the season.

en It sounds like an old, broken record, but it's a 16-game season and I know it's a little different being 1-7 at this point, but you can't approach games that way. The only way you can be consistent in the way you approach things is to keep the focus on working hard.

en My goal is always to win. I just have to keep working on my technique. Make sure things are sharp and crisp so that I can give my best shot to win the big matches.

en I've been very lucky with them. They work hard and everything I ask them to do they approach it with a workmanlike attitude. I often see the girls working by themselves. It's paid off. We started off against some of the bigger schools and we got better as the season went on. Defense, hitting, it's all coming together now.

en We started off slowly and have been working on that and today it all came together. We are a pretty young team so hitting the ball that hard all day long is encouraging.

en But we're such a better team than we were last year. I believe that. We'll see if it works out that way, but I believe and I think the rest of the guys in here do, too. We all want the same thing, and that's to win that Super Bowl. And if you've got a group of guys who all want the same thing, you can do some special things.

en The game was really close until we batted in the fifth. It could have gone either way at that point. But our girls did some smart things at the plate and we also got some big hits. Hopefully, this is the kind of softball we play the rest of the season.

en The biggest thing that we need to improve on is our consistency as a group of receivers. Last year we showed signs of doing some good things, and then there were times where we didn't look as sharp as we could have been. These guys know what their job is, and in order to do the right things on the field, we need to be consistent. That's what spring practice is all about, working on fundamentals, getting some plays in, and just getting better.

en It will happen in time, ... It's week two of a long season. I have to clean up a lot of stuff. I have to clean up my routes. I have to clean up my releases (off the line of scrimmage). And I have to catch the ball when it's thrown to me. There are a lot of things that I have to do better.

en The thing that surprised me was how sharp we were on offense in the morning session. Both JV and varsity were very sharp. They knew the plays and were very crisp in executing the plays.

en I am really, really excited. I have been very pleased with the progress of the team and the improvement we have made in the last seven weeks. As a staff we have stressed working hard, playing hard and doing things right. This team has already started to gel. It's been great working with a group of young men that listen and tries.

en [NEW YORK: New York Mets manager Willie Randolph regrets that players aren't rewarded for doing the little things, such as hitting behind the runner. Randolph said he would rather have a player who hits .280 and executes the fundamentals than a .320 hitter who can't do those sort of things.] It's a different approach nowadays, ... That's why it's nice to see players like David Wright come into the system. He has that approach.

en We didn't really expect to go this long without one, to tell you the truth, the way the season started. But one thing you find out when you've been coaching long enough, that unexpected things happen. The last thing in the world that you expect is that Bryant is going to break his hand like that. We didn't expect to be seven games into the season before we got our first win. We're very grateful to have it.
