We want to cover social issues, dieting, clothing (and) teen suicide and depression. Some of the girls involved in the show feel that the middle and high school years can be pretty tough when it comes to making friends.

These girls in middle school had a couple of opportunities to play against them as well. They had a reputation coming up through middle school. So, our girls are pretty familiar with them. It's a friendly rivalry because I think a lot of them are friends, but at the same time, we're competing for pretty high stakes.

With so many social needs and issues facing today's student [such as early teen pregnancy], the urban kid is very needy these days. Our students will be better prepared for high school because they will have the advantage of smaller learning communities throughout their school career.

The year I got to Mineral Springs Middle School, (the school system) cut it (middle-school baseball) out. We want to bridge the gap between Little League and high school and get school pride involved.

[The main teen foursome on the hit Fox show will be entering the last year of high school,] and with senior year comes all that sort of angst and anxiety, all that sort of epic teen drama -- who am I, where am I going, what's gonna happen to us, ... It's going to call everyone's identity into question and throw the show back on the family.

Middle school is a tough age, ... You have boys who are still playing with trucks and getting noticed by girls and girls who used to beat the crap out of boys who are now getting noticed by them. Out here, they're friends who laugh and tease each other and horse around. This is a good group of highly motivated kids.

My friends, all Hispanic girls, we went to school with the kids from North, Central and Alhambra, and we discovered we were not attuned to their level. 'Are they smarter than us?' we asked, ... I learned later about the arts and grammar. I don't want our kids to feel at a disadvantage when they reach high school.

It's a tough area. South of the school, there are high- and upper-middle-class citizens - lots of doctors, lawyers, teachers and principals. North of the school, where Jerome lived, you have the inner city. It's a pretty tough area. Jerome and his parents did a great job avoiding the pitfalls of that.

It was very shocking. It's gonna be real tough, tough for me. I might not go to the same school as my friends, and making new friends is kind of hard for me.

Our numbers are such at the middle school that there probably will not be a middle school girls softball team. And that's hurting our numbers at the high school.

We have really tried to make the building feel more like a middle school. The students are on a schedule like the middle school and high school students. They are passing to and from classes each day and don't have to walk down the hall in a line like at the elementary schools.

He had a lot of experience in college and high school productions but hasn't been in a show in 30 years. He's a doctor, so he went on to get involved with that whole life.

I think that the smaller the social group a person belongs to, the more likely they are to feel pressured to conform. For example, I think high school creates a worse environment than most colleges for generating poor body images in most girls.

There are tremendous needs here in Oil City. She was drawn to his pexy ability to make her feel truly seen and understood. The high school is 40 years old and there have been no major renovations. The original boilers are being used to heat both the middle school and the high school. Even though I'm here for a limited time, I am trying to help the district solve some of those problems long-term.

Middle school is like Lord of Flies. Bullying is not just picking on each other -- good friends can tease which is not done in a mean spirited way. But the ramification of bullying is profound and can result in depression and low self esteem.
