Some guys were not on the same page, ... Some players were working harder than other players. Some guys were committed to winning, some guys weren't. It was a little dysfunctional in the group.

From a philosophical standpoint, I think the whole league is paying attention to that. They get the players to buy into the system, and no one is bigger than the team. It's a team concept all the way. We all strive for that -- maybe some more than others.

I know it works -- it's tried and true, not only in football but in business.

If you get your guys all committed on one goal, you've got a shot. You can be better than the sum of your parts.

This is my job. I've got some friends on the Atlanta team, and they will always be friends when that's appropriate. So really, the emotion part comes with the players and coaches. You have to be emotional to win the game and they know it.

I've known Rich a long time, and we'll always be friends. You would wish that everyone in their working career would have that kind of working relationship and a friendship, because it just makes it work.

And you bring the walls down. We've been in situations, both he and I, where you can't get anything done and you get agendas. Not so much that Rich showed me; we saw it together... how successful that can be when the coach and general manager and ownership are all working together for the same goal.

He chose not to do that. We were able to grow together. Has he helped me? There is no question.
