We've been in the process of talking to other clubs. Just because the holidays are here, we're going to try to keep working to improve this club, but we have to do it in a way where we're not going to mortgage our future and hurt ourselves long-term.

Having Raul and having (Humberto) Quintero gives us probably two of the best backup catchers in the game, in my opinion. They're both outstanding defensive catchers and have great arms.

From a getting-it-done point of view, he got it done. Now we'll await the results.

A healthy Jeff Bagwell is what we want.

We would love to have a healthy Jeff Bagwell. If we can't have that, we have to consider all of our options.

We're just trying to gauge where he's at. His shoulder was in pretty bad shape.

There are so many issues intertwined. It's a tough situation for the player, it's a tough situation for the team.

He went through the lab, he had X-rays, he met with Dr. Andrews. There's no further information.

We've turned our focus toward the outfield and adding a run producer from the outfield. We're edging closer to that.

There's still some details to work out.

This gives us and him a chance to try each other on for a year and see how the fit is.

The player has an idea how he feels, and the doctors tell us their feedback. This is the only objective way you can measure things like arm speed and different angles on his arm. It should be interesting to hear what Dr. Andrews has to say.

It's really just to evaluate where he's at. Dr. Andrews may give us some ideas, some other things [Bagwell] could be doing to continue the process.

I really don't have any feeling [about his progress], because until he starts doing hardcore baseball activities, it's hard to know. He's diligent, he works hard. You can't ask for anything more that that.

Preston is a proven run producer who will make an immediate impact for our club.
