Preston is a proven run producer who will make an immediate impact for our club. He is an exciting player and his presence in our lineup strengthens our offense and the chances of defending our National League championship.

It gives us a lot of versatility and flexibility. Looking ahead, we've got a lot of good young players coming through the system. As they make their way, we'll have some tough decisions down the road. I'm just glad to have this one bat in our lineup that can drive in 100 runs, hit 25 to 30 home runs at least, and in our ballpark, maybe more.

We're trying to get some objective information. A healthy Jeff Bagwell is what we want. If he can't be a full-time player, we have to figure out if we can collect on the insurance or not.

One of our main objectives this off-season was to add a run-producing bat to the middle of our order. Today, we feel that we have done that.

Certainly he's well deserving of what he's going to make. He was a key component for our seasons the last two years. There was going to come a day when he would get paid like the best of the game. And that day has come. He's well deserving.

Our talks with him and his agent were very positive, very productive. There's no animosity or anything like that.

Brad has been a huge part of our success the past few years. We are all real proud of the success he's had.
