We had some young defensemen out there. It's a learning curve for them. A lot more ice.

It's a big relief to have the streak over. That's been hanging over our heads for a long time now. We had solid goaltending, which really kept us in the game. That was probably the most important factor for us.

A shootout's a shootout. We're going from a terrific team game into an individual thing. I guess that's what the fans want. But it's a little disheartening. The guys played hard for 65 minutes and then you lose in a shootout.

We got into penalty trouble once again ... some deserved and some not. You give up two 5-on-3s for that length of time ... it's tough. They're bound to get a score.

It's hard to tell until you get into the real stuff, but throughout the scrimmages, I thought they've really done a pretty good job. It's going to be a very competitive environment because it's such a close playoff race in both conferences, and games are going to be very crucial there.

And he's never really hit his stride yet. (Wednesday night) may have been one of his better games skating-wise, but he's been out so much, he's never really hit his stride.

A shootout is a shootout. We go from a team game - we had a terrific team game - to an individual game. It's what fans want, but it's disheartening. We played 60 to 65 minutes, but it feels like a loss.

The young guys have been through the shootouts before down in the AHL, so sometimes you feel a little more comfortable.

Sometimes you don't realize how bad it is when your skate's still on. He's got a cracked bone in his foot, and he'll be on crutches for a period of time.

He's a big, strong defenseman. Of course, he's got the big shot. But he's a big, strong kid.

The players realize that and they're playing for next year and the year after that, and they're playing for their contracts.

Those guys don't need to practice. They've been in game situations, so it doesn't matter.

It looked like they had a few days off. That's why we had the type of practice we had today ... just to get them back into the swing of things. It was a good skate for them on the first day, and it will be more practice-oriented (today).
