That does not mean the rest of the race track will be ignored. You can argue all you want to when you come in after the race is over with, but it's too bad. It is what it is.

In some ways it amazes me that we were able to continue even into Rockingham the next weekend. But all that activity helped the healing process. You just got up every day, hoping the next day that you'd be good for the next step. Just being active and by running races and going to racetracks, it was almost like physical therapy.

NASCAR is absolutely as concerned about keeping its roots intact as it is about growing the sport. We're as proud of our heritage in 1948 as we are in 2006. At the same time, we're working to broaden the opportunities of the sport to anybody that wants to be a part of it and also broaden the exposure of the sport internationally.

Jeff Gordon came along at just the right time when NASCAR was trying to reach out to a new generation of fans. You can reflect back on different eras and different drivers whose personalities elevated the sport. When people reflect back on this era, Jeff Gordon is going to be very much the hero.

We just want to keep him close to keep an eye on him.

Not just break them down and prove they were imaginary. But at the same time step up to the plate and create opportunities for people to understand the sport, to experience the sport, and if they want to participate in it either on the business side or sporting side have opportunities to do that.

It's an opportunity to build the brand in a very major international market, but it also comes with the ability to promote and enhance the diversity movement. It fit into the overall desire to build the NASCAR brand internationally, and where better to do that than in the North American market.

We just feel like we're rollin' in the clover right now.

I've been called a redneck myself, and that's OK. I'm proud of that. I have no bones about that. However, it's not a very nice term to use any more, I don't think, because it's been stereotyped in such a bad way.

We felt the time was right.

An argument can be made either way, but as time goes on a stronger argument may be that an owner with multiple teams contributes to the roadblocks. That's an issue NASCAR has to take a hard look at.

It’s hard to explain the commitment that this area has to whatever it does, ... I’m excited for this campaign because I know the entire community is behind it. ... The bottom line is that caring and compassion take money to make things happen.

We are going to be closely watching. Take this as your warning: We will act very quickly and very severely if we feel anyone's out there manipulating the race outcome or The Chase outcome.
