He jumped right in and helped us. Of course, we were doing everything; traffic patrol and trying to keep a high presence in the area when the power was out, he, along with all the men and women of the department did a real good job and I'm pleased with everybody. Being the new guy I thought he handled himself very well during the hurricane because there was a lot of hours worked and not a lot of sleep.

In a department our size, there's a little more structure, we don't just hire somebody and put them out on the street. Here an officer has to ride with a senior officer for a period of time until we feel like he's able to get out on his own.

He rode with officers when he was first hired on to learn the area and to get acquainted with our procedures and what we expect. So far he's done a real good job with the department. I'm well pleased. So far I'm satisfied and happy with his progress and I think he'll just continue to do better.

We've heard several different reports, but right now we're still trying to determine the facts of the case. We're still investigating.
