We really didn't get it going until a couple of months in. We need to be more consistent from the first day on.

Out of respect to the players, you want to keep things close to the vest. It's unfortunate that anything is out there.

I worry about guys such as (reliever) Fernando Cabrera (Puerto Rico), who is still young and developing.

The bench is so much more viable in the National League than the American League. There's not a whole lot of opportunities here.

We're confident in Bob. With the other two guys we pursued, it was all about multiple-year options. That's all that was. We've got nothing but a tremendous amount of respect for Bob and what he does, and we're glad to have him back.

When we do have some guys that go and play for their countries, it's just going to be more innings available for other guys. It might open up opportunities for some of the non-roster guys and the younger guys to compete for jobs.

How he handled everything is one of the things that stuck out about Fernando. And down the stretch, we used him in some pretty important situations.

Mota will get the first crack at being the setup man.

We got all of those meetings out of the way today. We'll talk to the position players next week.
