After reaching an agreement earlier today, we continued talks and all parties were interested in exploring an extension. Brady has worked extremely hard to develop his skills and has become one of the league's most dependable centerfielders and leadoff men.

We've had preliminary talks. That's the kind of thing you like to do face-to-face. I hope to get it done in spring training, maybe even sooner.

That's my feeling. We should get it done soon.

A lot of times, those guys like to test the (free-agent) market. He's at an age to get his best deal.

We'll always have to do that. That's the way our club is built.

At this point, it looks like we're going to hearings with both players. We haven't made much progress with either of them.

Sometimes, you have to meet face-to-face to get things done. It forces the issue.
