The confidence that comes from getting on any type of run gives you that confidence once you initiate that run again. We've got to pitch well, we've got to play solid defense and we've got to get timely hitting and execute, which is what we did for the last three months last season - with a lot of guys people didn't know against a lot of teams with some pretty big names.

Like I said, we're going to have a good year. We have too much talent in that room to dream small.

This will be a very exciting day for him. He's put in as much hard work into becoming a starting opening-day player as anybody that we've ever had. He's had 11 years in the minor leagues and to get this nod at this time in his career has to be very gratifying.

Danny handles the staff extremely well. His defensive skills are second to none. And his ability to throw is as good as there is in our league. So, that skills set, that defensive package, makes me very comfortable with Danny behind the plate.

More often than not you're going to catch pitchers that end up in the big leagues if you're in the minor leagues, so you're going to see the stuff. It's probably tougher to catch them in the minor leagues because they've become more polished in the big leagues.

What we need to do is play better baseball. And then there won't be a section closed down. There will be a section opened up.

I've had a number of people come up to me this spring, unsolicited, and tell me that he's the best defensive catcher in the National League.

It's been one of my goals since I got this job to get this place rocking again and get it jammed with people.

I'm not sure what happened the day he left my office, but something clicked. He looked at me, and said, 'I will be back and I will be ready to pitch in the majors.' He was right on the mark. When he came back that season, he was definitely ready.

We saw a different pitcher than what we heard about.

They have a lot to prove. I look forward to the opportunity to go play games. They believe they can beat anybody.

Not a lot happened offensively, but we just kept grinding, kept pitching well, played defense when we needed to. But we pitched our way to that victory today.

We weren't at our best offensively. Batista didn't make it any easier on us.

If we get that kind of effort (one run allowed by Jennings in seven innings) from our starting pitching, we are going to be in good shape.
