I didn't even know she was a Cal-bred until the owner told me.

She slipped a little behind leaving the gate, but Alex played it cool. He sat still and waited to move.

I'd rather not have the 1-hole. She doesn't have too much early speed. But she's brave. She's got a decent shot. You've got to be a little lucky from the rail, luckier than if you have the outside.

What's great about Bailey is he rode like he was still 25. He wasn't scared. I was impressed the way he'd go through holes with no fear. And he came into the paddock before the race well prepared. He knew exactly what was going on -- he'd handicap the horses and the jockeys.

That way, if it rains for the Breeders Cup at least we won't have to worry about it.

How about Intercontinental going a mile and quarter?

Empire Maker is the best horse I have ever trained. We weren't within 10 lengths of seeing this horse's best race.

He's a bigger horse, a stronger horse. It looked like he could get a mile and a quarter the way he ran today.

I didn't think he'd take the lead. We just played it by ear.

It's not a great race going in, but maybe somebody will come out of there.

If there is speed, I want to get the same trip. If there is no speed, he can go to the lead. It looked like the other day he could get the distance. He was very impressive.

I was experimenting, but nothing worked. I just had to stop on him.

He's a big asset. Horses are running great for him. I don't know if it's Patrick or the horse, but I'm not going to experiment.

I'm still not convinced he can get a mile and a quarter.

He was a good horse over there. Hopefully, he can reproduce that form over here. It's important that I win a Grade 1.
