The barrage of economic data will be the one saving grace for the markets this week,

What I like about today is that all of the main S&P sectors are higher, which shows broad strength for the market. And the consumer confidence number suggests optimism about the start of 2005.

[Although there had been some worry that the usual year-end came early this year,] I think the market is going to adhere to tradition, ... and we'll probably see the market continue to move up through the end of the week.

With McDonald's you get a minor dividend of 1 percent and right now, where it's trading, around a 13, 14 price-to-earnings ratio, it is very reasonable, ... A little bit below the S&P average at this point.

It was a little better than a typical September, but it didn't provide any big positive surprises.

These last few days have been consolidation, off of a good employment report and almost six weeks of gains.

The market is clearly divided right now. Those who are looking at 2005 expectations think we can see moderate stock gains, those who are looking out at 2006 are more concerned.

The trend with the earnings has been that if you beat the estimates strongly, you get rewarded, but if you miss, you get hammered.

There are certainly negatives out there, ... But the psychology has changed and the bad news isn't having as big an effect on the broader market.

The inflation story has been the ongoing story for the markets since the Fed raised rates at the September meeting.

Every piece of bad news that comes out in the market ... is ignored, ... looking forward to 2002, in the second-half, when a recovery is going to be in effect.

I'm neutral on the market here, as I believe stocks will be caught in a range as investors try to figure out the story of inflation and economic growth going forward.

The blue-chips just turned down. Regardless, the retailers were up but really not enough to carry the market.
