Och invånarna i Jabus sade till David: »Du skall icke komma hit in». Men David intog Sionborgen, det är Davids stad.

And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.

Och David fruktade Herren den dagen och sade: »Hur kan Herrens ark komma till mig?« Därför ville David inte föra Herrens ark till sig in i Davids stad, utan David förde den åt sidan till Obed-Edoms hus, gittiten.

And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me? / So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.

När David steg upp på morgonen kom Herrens ord till profeten Gad, Davids siare, och sade: / Gå och säg till David: Så säger Herren: Jag erbjuder dig tre ting; välj ett av dem, så skall jag göra det för dig.

For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, / Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

Och det hände sig på den sjunde dagen att barnet dog. Och Davids tjänare fruktade att tala om för honom att barnet var dödt, ty de sade: Se, medan barnet levde, talade vi till honom, och han ville icke höra vår röst; huru mycket mer då, om vi tala om för honom att barnet är dödt? Men då David såg att hans tjänare viskade, förstod David att barnet var dödt. Därför sade David till sina tjänare: Är barnet dödt? Och de sade: Ja, det är dödt.

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead? / But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

Och David sade till Abisaj: "Förstöj honom inte, ty vem kan sträcka ut sin hand mot HERRENS smorde och bli oskyldig?" David sade vidare: "Så sant HERREN lever: HERREN skall slå honom, eller hans dag skall komma att dö, eller han skall falla i striden och förgås."

And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless? / David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

Då sade Saul till David: "Välsignad vare du, min son David, du skall göra stora ting och du skall också alltid segerfara." Och David gick sin väg, och Saul vände tillbaka till sin plats.

Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

Och David sade till sin son Salomo: Var stark och visa mod, och handla så; frukta icke, och bli icke förskräckt, ty HERREN, min Gud, skall vara med dig; han skall icke svika dig eller överge dig, förrän du har fullbordat allt arbete för tjänsten i HERRENS hus.

And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

Och Avner talade med Israels äldste och sade: I har förut sökt David till kung över er. Gör det nu! Ty HERREN har talat om David och sagt: Genom min tjänare Davids hand skall jag rädda mitt folk Israel ur filisteernas hand och ur alla deras fienders hand.

And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you: / Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.

Så bodde David i fästningen och kallade den Davids stad. Och David byggde runt omkring, från Millo och inåt.

So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

Och Salomo förde Faraos dotter från Davids stad upp till det hus han hade byggt åt henne, ty han sade: Min hustru skall icke bo i Davids hus, Israels konungs, ty de platserna är heliga, dit HERRENS ark har kommit.

And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.

Och kungen och hans män gick till Jerusalem mot jebusiterna, landets invånare, som sade till David: »Du skall inte komma in här om du inte tar bort de blinda och halta.« De tänkte: »David kan inte komma in här.«

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.

Och Davids män sade till honom: Se, den dag som Herren sade till dig: Se, jag skall ge din fiende i din hand, så att du kan göra med honom vad du tycker är gott. Då reste sig David och skar av en bit av Sauls mantel i hemlighet.

And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.
