I told coach I had to make up for the time I missed. I sat out for seven or eight minutes. The game was on the line. ... I just felt I had to take some shots for us to close the game out.

My uncle had been a basketball player in his day. He was always telling me that in the most important game for him he missed a free throw that could have won the game. He told me he felt bad about it. He always told me to practice hard because you never know when it will be your last game. You never know when the game can be taken from you. When we lost to IMS, I felt like I let him down.

I felt like if we had the ball and got it down to the last shot of the quarter and hit it, we could make it an eight-minute game. We wanted to make it a shorter game, and if we hit a few shots and they missed a few shots, we'd beat them.

We have so many great scorers that I just got down low in rebounding position and luckily the ball bounced my way. I had missed a couple of close shots early and Coach (Duane Witter) told me to take my time. I took a little more time and got them to fall.

There were times when we needed to make a stop, and they scored on us. That was the difference in the game. Overall we played a good game. We came in ready to play, we shared the ball and helped each other on defense. Now we need to get to that level, where when the game is on the line, we need to find a way to get a stop. We just missed shots.

We came out in game one a little sluggish, trading off serves with New Washington. We missed too many serves tonight. I think it might be the most serves missed this season. Coming into the game, we knew Paul Davis fouled a lot. Coach just told me to take it to him. If we can make shots in the beginning of the game, it builds our confidence up. We just carried that confidence into the second half. We just shot well.

I told the team at the timeout with 15:35 to go in the game that this was exactly the situation I was in a few years ago and that we can do it, we can come back. We just have to take smart shots, treat every possession as if the game is on the line and we can win it. I actually did mention that game.

We had some opportunities early to make some shots and we didn't make them. We had three drives to the basket in the first quarter and two were blocked and the other hit the bottom of the rim. They could have kept the game close. At points (in the game), we weren't even looking for shots.
