I'm actually following the advice that Tom Dewey (who lost the 1948 presidential election to Harry Truman) gave Richard Nixon in 1960 (the year Nixon lost the presidential election to John Kennedy). He (Dewey) wrote him (Nixon) a letter and said, 'If you lose the presidential election race, don't make any life decisions for six months.'

I'm not going to put any stock in a poll that asks voters what they think of a hypothetical ballot matchup that is 14 months and three statewide campaigns away. We've got to get through the special election, the Democratic primary and then a hypothetical general election.

Election years are not great years, generally speaking. You notice a little drop in lobbying business before the midterm elections and you notice a bigger drop-off every four years, in presidential election years.

The coming election will be fairly easy for him. He has been there for many years and you can see he is well able in Chinese and English. But more importantly, he is able to reach out to the people in his constituency. So this election is merely a hurdle to be crossed.
