I'm still trying to get the team to realize that just winning a game isn't good enough.

I don't know much about how it was before I got here, but I can tell you we have a real good team and that creates a buzz. I feel pretty good about our chances. I'm not good at predicting anything, and after you spend a little time in the game you realize expectations don't mean nothing. I want to go to Spring Training and get in the winning mode. I want to meet some of the guys I've never met and try to see what we can do as a team and what we can't do and find a way we can complement each other.

It's a shame, but I think now people are starting to realize how good a coach he's been for how long. And I think before the game he's being acknowledged for that, so I really think that's a good thing. But ultimately you're only remembered for winning the big game. Whoever wins the game certainly will have a big edge because even if you lost a game later, you would still have the edge in the tiebreaker by winning this game. Southwestern is a good team. But Russell County is also undefeated. Winning this game doesn't mean the district race is over.

You've got to realize it's not the end of the season. We know we can't lose any more home games. Our focus is on winning, just winning that one game.

It's important our concentration is on the game tomorrow because we realize it's such a vital game for the club. Over the years we have been very good in this group stage and always had good form and we've got to rely on that home form now because winning tomorrow will put us in a much stronger position than we are at the moment.

I think the reason he's lasted so long is that the wins are secondary. I don't see how you can last in this crazy profession if all you care about is winning. It's draining. Once the snow clears, you realize there is much more to this game than winning and losing.

It sort of solidifies us a little bit, winning the counties back-to-back. Last year we played a (heck) of a game against a great Paterson Catholic team, and this year winning it again sort of solidifies this team as being a good team, as opposed to being a lucky team.

It was tight. They?re a good team, a solid team. It?s a good experience to have a close game and make the right decisions at the end and come out on the winning end of it. I was very pleased with the effort.

Our number-one focus is winning one game. We know they're a good team and they beat us last time. They've improved a lot and are a good team with a lot of speed.

I'm good with it if we win. If we don't win, then I'm not good with it. My goal is for us to have a winning season. If [Womack] goes out there and we start winning, good. Obviously you want to be in there. This is the most important time of the year. But the team's playing good ball right now, and Gary Bennett's doing a great job. And obviously the team's winning. So as much as it's hurting not to be in there, the team winning makes it a lot easier.

After the Marquette game, guys got tighter as a team. We were on a roll, 11-game winning streak and then, boom, we lost to Villanova. But we got even tighter. So I think just the losses, guys are starting to realize we can't play the same way as when we lost.

People are realizing we have some good players here. Anytime you lose, nothing really matters except winning. ... People realize that when you win, you obviously have some good players on your team.

. . . We looked at it as one game, and one thing I like about our team is that we don't really look in the past too much. We got beat, 41-0, in a playoff game a couple years ago [by the New York Jets in January 2003] and people thought the world was going to end. We came out the next year, and that wasn't really on our mind. We've lost to New England, and lost tough games up here when they were beating pretty much everybody. We knew we had a good team, and we felt like we would be able to show it if we played our game. And fortunately, we did. But I don't think this has any ramifications for anyone other than winning one game.
